Woodlanders... a network of people who work with the generosity of the trees and the earth. The Gathering
grew from the need for like-minded people to just visit with each other, to share stories and be in the company of people
who had similar passions for natural forms.
2011 is our twelfth year and our 20th and 21th Gatherings.
A Woodlanders Gathering is not quite a workshop, not quite a conference... but a three-day mix of information, tools,
demos, hands-on workshops, and visiting. Someone called it "fellowship" or "getting in the zone".
Themes center on the elements: earth, air, fire, water, food and aether (spirit). Join us for career development
in arts, crafts and community. This is an opportunity for mid-career artists, craftspeople, builders, people interested in
earth and nature based activities to try something new and enjoy themselves.
The
Gathering in Wisconsin is usually a four-day event and is well-programmed with many, many hands-on workshops. It is a well
run "make and take" gathering with plenty of time for visiting and and other arts-related activities.
The Gathering in New York has two tents of tables and materials available all weekend with instruction scheduled
every hour. There are demos by artists and craftspeople which include active participation. Time is spent sharing what
we all know and what we are concerned by.The activities are of a seemingly less practical and useful nature. But trelisses,
small chairs do get made and there is turning, weaving, chainsaws and many of the other essentials of nature-based making.
Rustic builder and author Daniel Mack is the host of the New York Gathering.
Spend quality time in beautiful surroundings, exploring natural materials
and creating possiblities.
